Hey, got a question: I'm currently (slowly) running a c. 2004 pb g4 with 867 MHz and 640 MB RAM. I want to get rid of it and buy a new MacBook pro but, i'm worried that the new set-up will run too slowly w/ cs2 and i dont know when i'll be able to obtain a semi-legal version of cs3. I want to know if making this switch will bring my freelance work to a grinding halt. i do mostly illustrator stuff with photoshop running simultaneously at times. Thanks.

I'm MBP clad. Currently I have the CS3 photoshop which runs awesome. Illustrator I have yet to get installed as I understand that it is a little choppy. The overall use of each individual program is fine. What bogs down the new intels in rosetta is when two non-intel programs are running at the same time. So using multiple programs under a tight deadline... I wouldn't try it. The CS3 package and macromedia package will be out by the summer. Just wait it out.

illustrator and photoshop on my mac dont like to run together, so i just let illustrator crash when i open photoshop.
photoshop, isnt that slow, it will be faster on your mbp than on your old g4, but dont know about illustrator, cause now its more buggy than like a month ago, it crashes whenevr i use the pathfinder, so, im making illustrations without that, will try reinstlling one day..
but still, my freelance is not affected.
my partner, got a mbp too, but kept her old powerbook, she says photoshop is faster there but her mbp, was one of the first, so i think that one is just slow.
i do advertising, so i work with heavy printing stuff, like billboards, and work with my partner on fashion photography and product shots, so i relly a lot on cs2, but im doing fine.
ps3 beta, runs great.

surfito:
about the pathfinder crashing illustrator -> open illustrator, then close the appearance window, then close illustrator and open it again, should be fine then.

Yeah, that pathfinder thing works really well.
All the stuf is a true say - CS2 is UNSTABLE! Although indesign saves out temp files.
Wait it out – you've been fine all this time and to be honest, it's not worth your stress.
Roll on CS3!

dman. that sucks - i really just want to go out there and buy one. anybody have it and doing fine? or do i have to start a thread about the release date of cs3?

I'm still on CS1 and no problems..
if cs3 really works that great, and I upgrade to mbp, then I will make the switch.. as for now..

I used CS2 for a long time on my MBP and it was a bit slow but I still got work done. The text tool was the slowest and everything else was reasonable, which was all still faster than what I had running on my iBook so I could have cared less.
I'm running CS3 now and it's blazing fast and has some fantastic updates.
Do it. You won't be dissapointed.

(Feb 6 07, 13:01)It's a "BETA" version. First time Adobe's ever released a beta version of their product before.
If you have a copy of CS2 you go to Adobe's site and enter that serial number, then you get a CS3 serial number. Download the beta CS3 (Photoshop, Bridge and one other program, I forget, only. Not the whole CS Suite) and apply that serial number to CS3. If you have legit copies (or not) and are entering serial numbers they won't shut off, no matter what some people (with illegal copies) might say.
