Yesterday I attended the WebDD Conference at the Microsoft Campus, Thames Valley Park, Reading. Just going to the place was exciting enough for me, and it was all free, apart from the expensive cabs to and from the venue and the train station. The other big thing that appealed to me, was of course the talks on Accessibility and Usability, which I have been learning and putting into practice as a junior designer in my current job. I need to learn a whole lot more... so much to take in, but found it all very inspiring. Sessions I attended included:
Microformats - HTML to API
Glen JonesWeb Accessibility: What, Why, How and Who Cares?
Bruce LawsonQuick and dirty Usability tests - one week, no budget, and no usability facility
Zhivko DimitrovConnecting Design to Real Business Value
Brandon SchauerThe accessibility talk being the most interesting, Bruce Lawson was a great speaker.
I was interested in attending the 'Unobtrusive Javascript with Rails', in the last session of the day, but I have no idea what Rails is, so left a little earlier as I felt it would be a bit too 'developer' based for me. I did however pick up my free copy of Microsoft Expression Web, along with the beta version, even though I have just tried to ditch my PC for Mac... doh!
All in all a great day! Looking attended further conferences, lectures and talks on User Experience, not sure where too look though, any suggestions would be great :)
