I'm designing a logo for a company & I am curious as for whatever protection there is for the company or for myself on copyright issues? Put this out first - as far as I know, the logo I am designing is like no other, I have not seen it's likeness anywhere - but thats not to say that some company in where-eversville has an existing logo similar to it. Is there any correct way to go about this?

    Thanks in advance~

    Warranty of Originality

This warranty does extend to any uses that the client or others may make of the designers product which may infringe on the rights of others. Client expressly agrees that it will hold the designer harmless for all liability caused by client’s use of the designers product to the extent such use infringes on the rights of other.

get to know some trademark people – if there's budget in the project, run some formal checks on your final concepts so you don't go too far down the line just to find a conflict when it's too late to go back. that's happened to me, and it sucks.

I started this up a while back as a visual resource for logo designers in your exact situation:

    http://www.identityarchives.com

the database is slow as molasses right now, but as I fix it up, it should help us find and avoid visual or conceptual conflicts in our logo design work. search by industry, keyword, region, design element, whatever.
