ok - we bought this buffalo linkstation that apperntly we can get ftp access to from anywhere.
it works when we access it on the network its on;
ftp://admin2:war@192.168.1.68/di... BACKUPS/which works and is super fast but how do i access it from outside the network?
do i need to put my router ip address in too? i'm stuck!

Some interesting stuff you have in there. Are you really sure you wanted to post that link?

I jest, btw..
Well - I would imagine that you need to open up a port for it on the router, and also open up that port on your firewall.

yeh - says something about port 21 but i had that set right in the ftp app??!?!?

You'll to give the outside world incoming access to port 21.
This will be set in your router software somewhere, and possibly you'll also need to open up port 21 in any firewalls you have. Even Windows firewall if you're running this on a desktop machine.

192.168.1.68 is the IP of the harddrive/server i wanna connect to but that doesn't look very unique to me?
192.168.1.68 isn't connected directly to the internet but to our router, then the internet so do i need to use the rooters' ip somewhere?

It looks unique to me.
192.168.1.68 is an external IP - it will be NAT'ed to an internal IP.I'm pretty sure you just need to open up the port.
