yeah but...it's focusing on the creator when it's about the work. why does it matter if youre black or white?
does the fact that there is a black history month say something about racism and there NOT being a white history month? and what about indian history month? mexican history month? hellooo???

form... good point.
i'm looking for an interivew i read recently about social demographics and education in regards to the arts. it discussed social attitudes of different classes towards going to art school vs becoming a lawyer, doctor, etc. -- how being able to afford an education is one thing, but entering a career that is socially acceptable to your family and surrounding groups is another motivator all together.

what a predictable bore-fest this place is, it's like perpetual tennis on groundhog day.

doesnotexist you wont ever get it. its obvious.
part of white privilege is not understanding...so bask in the joy that white history month(even tho it occurs 11 months of the year) isnt necessary to label any month as such. You should be glad that you are so lucky.
I swear all the design boards are full of racist prick white boys. Although I think Yay Hooray is the worst.
- Everyone is racist dude, especially prick non whites. Does this sound racist?avolve

i think it's similar to showcasing women in design (although there are far far more of them now than there used to be). basically saying:
yup, this used to be an old white boys' club but we're encouraging it to be a more diverse industry.

MLP you are correct. I would love to help you talk about that article. My parents hated for me to come to art school for a variety of reasons I am sure are culturally rooted.
There are 700 students in my entire art school and I dont think there are even 20 people who arent white. There are no Black faculty at all.
I find it funny that people who claim to be artists dont understand why its important to have all poeple contribute to the convseration and cant respect the varied and important histories we ALL bring to the table.

I dont know but every time a history of a particular group is discussed your gonna get some of the most negative and sarcastic people responding. Grow up man. The point of this thread is not to put anybody above anybody else, its to learn something about another culture or people that be a major benefit, especially design.

It's not really progressive it is? I spent my childhood being told we're all the same underneath, but now we're not?
There's too many lines in the sand these days.

to be honest moth, you're quite the reactionary.

i find it very interesting socially... like in the NYT last sunday they ran that article about black kids getting into rock and skateboarding like it was some new unique thing, talking about bands like tv on the radio. bad brains? YDI? living colour? fishbone? its kind of unfortunate that bands like that are unique. everyone should be able to do whatever they want.

Except Kuz. He's different from everyone else, inside and out. Proper freak.
