this has created a crisis for me. I LOVED the Police. Stewart Copeland is a drum god...and I'm psyched to see them live...but it occurs to me...
I've become one of them. You know the ones; they are so excited to relive some nostalgic time in their foolish youth and can't accept that it's not 1974 anymore and Keith Richards is a crone.

we recorded some demos last year with nigel gray, the producer who did The Police's early stuff, we were all like soooo what were they like? and he told us this story about some festival in europe in the 80s where the police were headlining, the bouncer was refusing to let sting in unless he saw his backstage pass which drove him a bit nuts, he was like "don't you know who I AM? I'M THE REASON YOU'RE ALL HERE. I'M THE REASON YOU HAVE A JOB!! I COULD HAVE YOU FIRED LIKE (snaps fingers) THAT!!"
Later he saw sting standing on some sort of platform in the corner of the v.i.p room, holding out his hand for people to kiss his ring.
i love the police.

Also, wanted to add, Sting's music after second solo album sucks big time, but the best thing he did solo was live album Bring On The Night, right after The Dream Of The Blue Turtles. He hired the best jazz musicians out there and made them play the blue turtles/police stuff. Branford Marsalis, Darryl Jones, Omar Hakiim, Kenny Kirkland.. obviously all ended in quarrels about the amount of solos that were played and were cut on the album by Sting..
