I'm trying to display an italic version of a font but its just not having it... sometimes they are listed seperately in the font list but this time they are not... and do they want to work? NO!
How do get around this problem... is it possible to hack into a font and give it a different name so it'll appear elsewhere in the font list... driving me mad!

the italic variant is displaying as a seperate font (sometimes)?
what about selecting the original and hitting the "I" in the properties panel?

it wouldn't so much be "hacking" as editing the font info. i can to it with ttfs. have you tried embedding the characters and the "I" as mentioned by Undo?

Yeah its the italic button that works in authoring, but when you publish it it disappears... just tried it with the HTML attribute off and it seems to work...
so think I'll just get around it that way... will have to replace my &s; and my br's with & and \n
why is nothing straightforward in flash

lol @ "why is nothing straight forward in flash".
have you embedded the font or dynamically loading it. make sure all the glyphs are embedded for the Italic chars

looks like you need to embedd the font for each variant you use, ie. 1 for standard, 1 for italic, 1 for bold

...speaking of which shouldn't your bookmarks be of places you want to see, things you want to do...
...not bloody workarounds, and css shite!
