Hello Denverites, I am inquiring about your safe, hip neighborhoods. What neighborhoods should I look at and which ones should I avoid? I'm looking to relocate near the end of summer from the swamplands of dc. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tad

hey tad,
this question in general makes me laugh my ass off as i have lived ion both places for a long time each and know ecatly what you are thinking of coming from DC. believe me, w/ exception of about 4 square blocks over spendogg's house and his 'ladies of the night', you can pretty much go anywhere you want in denver and be cool.
oh, and try boulder if you want '20 square miles, surrounded by reality...'

urban or suburban places to live?
- tadcautious0
ebc, urban places are prefered, i want to live where i can meet people easily as i'll do this move alone.
madirish, hey i haven't be on in a long while, sorry i never made it to a dc happy hour, i don't know if you remember me or not. as far as comparision, to dc & denver, i am looking for something like mt. p or columbia heights.
oh whats up with gang violence in denver? i don't hear much about it here in dc.

I've only been to Denver once, so this is irrelevant... but when I played Jr. College football, I remember this guy named Leonard Redwine and he was a crip from Denver, CO. I found it funny on two counts, a.) he was a crip, but his last name was Redwine, b.) I just couldn't figure out how there was a gang scene in CO... then I saw "Gangbangin in Little Rock" on HBO

if you are in your early to mid twenties and single, move to Capitol Hill. (Highest concentration of your peers.) But only sign a 6-month lease, because you'll hate it by the time your lease is up. And you'll move to Baker because you'll have a good job and want a house. Or if you're cool, then you'll move to 38th before it gets too gentrified. But do it soon (if you're gonna rent.)'cause rates are supposed to skyrocket again in 6 months.

hahaha madirish ya wee bastard.
there are all kinds of nice areas here. I live in highlands, which is northwest denver - great neigborhood, but not super urban.
My office is in an area that is exploding just west if downtown
http://www.riverfrontpark.com/ it is pretty fun.there is cherry creek that is a bit pricey, but there are hot chicks everywhere.
the area around the musem is getting more lofts as well.
I would check out these areas first.
Most of the gang activity is in Aroura and Five Points

i would stick to central area.. capital hill.. wash park, congress park.. highlands is nice.. but it very much sucks for grocery stores or anything like that.. I had more problems living in highlands than i ever did living in 5 points..

downtown- unlike a lot of cities, all the happenin shit is right downtown in denver- shopping, sports arenas, bars, clubs, restaurants, events, concerts.

Depends on your budget too. Are you buying or renting?
If you want to walk to downtown, lodo is good but can be expensive (especially to buy).
Highlands are a great deal to buy, but much quieter. There are many nice, small developments all over the place.

there are some gems in the highlands. victorians that rent for cheap. some landlords are trying to capatalize on the hip factor but great inexpensive places can be found. - great location if you like to walk around Menver, d-town.
