Funny you should post this robotron3k... a few days ago I posted in the home improvement thread about CNC wordcarving machines. I've always dreamed of producing old school, carved wooden signs. Mixing my love of typography and wordworking. But the time required was immense. While the CompuCarve is nice, it is severley limted by its dimensions, and software.
Now this puppy can auto cut 3-D up to 4'x8'. http://www.shopbottools.com/prts…
It also works off of any of the available CAD/CAM software out there.

it looks absolutely amazing, just to cut forms and shapes... and could you do even product designs, I understand the unit is VERY loud, but for only 2k, IF they could work out the bugs, I think it's very compelling...

Strange how things come around. my resolution for 2007/08 is to save up and get one of these (or a Euro equivalent, more likely)

if you get that CNC machine you have to hook us up with photos. that would be a crazy piece of equipment to own.
me, i'm stuck with a router pantograph and a set of chisels.
actually, the pantograph was a gift and i haven't had the chance to mess with it. i should put that on the priority list.
