I have a architectural fly-through video that is 720x404 pixels and runs about 4 minutes. I'm trying to compress this for viewing on the web. Any idea what kind of final file size I should be aiming for? And what codec might I use?
Thanks

I think the bitrate is more important than the final size. Oh, and use Flash.

The final video will be a stand alone .mov file that sits on a server. Nothing fancy is needed as the final product will actually be viewed on a kiosk set-up. Howerver, client needs to see something in the interim and I wanted to throw a fairly light file on the server. Any suggestions?

If you have Flash 8 Pro you should be able to just import your mov and it has a wizard that will run you through all the settings, putting controls in, etc. I'm not an expert in that area, I just know the functionality is there.
Good Luck.

just use h264, fiddle with the quality and you might get it down to 70MB without looking too bad.

oh, make sure they have QT7.

just use a flash 8 flv - more people have flash than QT 7, and it is a great compression...

fuck flash, use quicktime pro to save it as an mpeg.

"fuck flash, use quicktime pro"
yup. it's a deal at only $30. h264 is a fantastic codec for the web.
