Just saw a show about this new bridge this week.
Uh, no thank you, I wouldn't drive across that bridge if my life depended on it.
Jesus that is frightening.
Here's a site for the project:

It's a dam shame really.

on discovery? I saw it too, How high were they?! looking down on the dam it was like they were 1500 feet in the air or something. freaking crazy

You ever been to the Hoover dam?
You can throw a handful of water over the edge and the updraft will suspend the water there, almost dancing in front of you before a large gust blows the water up and over your head onto the people unfortunate enough to be walking behind you on the dam.
It's amazing.
My buddy looked over the edge and it blew his glasses off his face and over his head. It's crazy.

ha... just watched a Discovery Docu-show (one of their "'mega'-something" shows) on this exact project... Dangerous as #$%@...
... but honestly - that freakin' dam gets backed up for HOURS sometimes...
... sitting in the desert in your car sweltering for hours or.... drive over the super-mega-wind-swaying bridge?

Did we all watch the same show the other night? I saw it too.
haha!

hell yeah we did, it was on before the mythbusters pirate special

Work Resumes on Hoover Dam Bypass After High Winds Toppled Tower Cranes. Incident Caused Delays But No Injuries or Bridge Damage

hey this part wasn't on the show.
- mg330
I actually had NO IDEA that they even let traffic cross the dam!!
That's insane. All the worry of terrorists and such, I can't believe it actually has traffic on it as a main roadway.
- PonyBoy0
you're right, material.. it wasn't...
... the shows key theme seemed to be on the safety of the whole operation...
... then you see this article.
btw... Discovery = theDope!

and that damn damn is sweet as hell. i have toured it as a kid and remember loving it.
- k0na_an0k0
mg33, yeah you can drive right over the top of it into arizona.
but the tours no longer take you to some parts of the dam inside for fear of terrorism.

i have and it was fun

Hoover! Hoover! Hoover!

speaking of freaky traverses... have you heard about the proposed whistler-blackcomb peak to peak gondola?

that's peak to peak my friends:

Man, I wouldve loved that bridge years ago, had a girlfriend going to school in Arizona (I'm in Vegas) and I sat in traffic at that damn dam so many times I lost count.
Also, I would take the high winds over the 70mph oncoming lane passing any day.

I was in vegas last summer with my gf and we went on a day trip to the grand canyon via the windy road over the hoover dam. It was amazing. I had no idea it was that big. It was about what I expected width wise but you never get to see how deep the drop is on tv.
On the same kind of subject, when we were at the grand canyon we saw proposals for a glass bottomed viewing platform called the 'skywalk' over the canyon. Now that would freak me out:

the hoover dam seems intimidating from afar but when you're driving over it, it's not bad at all
- mg330
intimidating???
The dam itself seems fine, it's that m'f'n bridge way up there halfway to the moon that you wouldn't catch me driving over!!!!

hell yeah we did, it was on before the mythbusters pirate special
