imo it looks like this "fif th"
the f and t are too far apartalso, the cross bar doesn't seem to match up quite right from the f to the t. the f seems a little lower

Are you able to convert to outlines and fix the overlaps of which v4 speaks? If so, loosen the 'if' pair and you're golden.

I'm useless in these matters

i like it, maybe it was the t that needed lowered though instead of raising everything else? i dunno, i want to connect every letter in such situations, it looks good though, nice that you are already splitting hairs on the design, pretty solid
- Typographica0
How large will this appear? In print?
- johndiggity0
it's for a logo, and it will appear as "fifth street" when all is said and done. the inclusion of some of the same letters (the "t's") in the other word made me think i should alter height of the crossbars to match them (the "t's"), rather than the "f's". does that make sense?

the idea is nice, but honestly, it is a tough read.
maybe the first f and the dot on the i need to be more obvious.. i don't know, to many confusing vertical stems, little detail to differentiate the letterforms...
- Typographica0
I'm still seeing a pixel of gray beneath each connection. Otherwise I think it works.

i'm going to chalk that up to a gif export artifact and be done with it. thanks to all who participated. yes even you rand. your unflinching public admissions define true character and i salute you!

one second, i am uploading something i jsut stumbled upon when reading a book in bed.. sheer coincidence..
hold on
- Crouwel0
street next to it certainly makes it easier on the eye, as you are more likely to expect the word fifth over anything else..
- johndiggity0
initially i tried to get them to go with "5ifth" just because i saw the nightmare of all these ligatures looming, but when they showed it around, they said no one could understand if it was pronounced "fifth" or "five-ifth".
i recommended they change their literature to "five-ifth".

i actually hate that, sorry. :)
always looks like a cheap gimmick and confuses reading.
