That never happens here in london.
I mean ... NEVER.
- Nairn0
But it just did - I'll stand, witness to that, Digilee. Right outside my living room window, it was.
Well I never..

i did, i wasn't impressed
ever wonder how money commissioned to artists could feed starving kids? i know i do
version4
(Jan 8 07, 17:14)why always refer to children when trying to put oneself in the role of the morality professor? and what about money commisioned to designers to design city hall interiors for instance?
- version30
i have never, since childhood, understood "public art" as useful and people refer to children because adults can (should be able to) feed themselves.
but who would care what i say if i said, "you know how many happy meals i could buy with public art money?"
kids pull @ heartstrings concrete gets defaced

brings back nostalgic memories of the '< Whoa!' thread

"because adults can (should be able to) feed themselves.
"not necessarily. it was not a personal attack though, but it is so damn annoying when people want to make a moral proposition or opinion or otherwise they always need to put children in a perspective of poor, helpless and miserably abused by the evil world of adults, and by doing so, making them a charicature of our own miserable projections upon them. just my 2 cents.

- your statement could still stand, and it would not be so terribly morally loaded and thus suffocating any possible open discussion about the merits of artistic expression in the public domain.

I'm stunned Rand.

so you understand that i allude that all these hoighty toighty artists building multi-ton structures of lifeless mass are taking food out of the mouths of babies right?
;)

(Jan 8 07, 17:34)lol
i am simply saying that you are blaming the wrong ones. don't blame art and the artists, they just be and make, like an artist should.
blame the ones making decisions on the market valuea and its "market place" so to speak.

Finish Your Beer. There are sober people in India.
- version30
hahaha!
i'm not really blaming, just doing what i do, finding a side a running with it. but now with this new twist you give, I should feel sorry for the artist? because he is hired to make by the ones in power? is it his not his responsibility to the public as a hired professional to take into consideration the wants and more importantly needs of the community?
no instead i get some 30 foot tall sundial that was poured 32 degrees off kilter by immigrant workers so the time is always off?this is no story in particular, bu most artists rendentions of public spaces are trash pure utter "can you believe what i got away with" trash
i'm pointing mainly at over popularized architects right now

you do not have to feel sorry for the artist, nor feel sorry for the human state that is childhood.
my issue with bad art in public spaces is with the council people who are usually terribly informed or simply too uncultured to value good art.
this is often moreso the case in smaller towns. and i know this.... :):/

(Jan 8 07, 18:04)kind of what i'm bitching about
we have old historic buildings here ganted nothing OLD but to us there are staples in our downtown
we have a design firm here, the greteman group, (fuck em) and they proposed small tiny metal painted signs in bright playful colors with useless pieces of metal and balls shooting off in every direction to guide you through downtown
i guess they work because you can read them but as far as fitting the appeal and ambiance of the towns historic buildings, they failed miserably
i can only blame a greased palm or a PTA mother on the board passing it through
obviously no forethought as it sounds you are familiar with

lolz this sounds like home.
i guess every small town has one "known" (thus popularized through ignorance) shitty design agency proposing the most hideous visual diarrhea following no concept but the vague excuse of the towns' peoples interests and misled politically correct bollocks like that..i hate that shit.
- ********0
..and indeed, by no concept i mean, no study, no contextualization in a historic or cultural sense but merely vague excuses to emphasize its unjustified popularism..

jesus, did you see that?
