I know there's still the warranty, but I'd rather it just not break, or be really less likely to break, you know?
thats is why refurb is better, it's been tested for you.. simple as that

My best advice would be to save your cash until you go to korea,
I've lived there for 4 years and could only dream going back to get those high end low productions serie laptop/desktop i've seen there,
they are like a million years in future compared to what i've seen around the world (except japan)
just wait boy, if you don't find one that suits your tastes there, just get the refurb then.

well, considering it has a warranty and is eligible for applecare, what does it matter? if it is a lemon, send it back!
and think about it, why would apple send out a machine they know to be a lemon knowing that it would likely come back and further eat their profit?

i got my gf a refurb ipod 60gb 5gen, was worried if it'd come scratched.. turned out not only it had the whole covering replaced (it had to in order to have a new serial number engraved), but also it is brighter than mine, seems that they put one of the new screens from the 5.5gen in it.

I mentioned this to our IT guy and he says everything he's heard says the refurb laptops are lemons, and most of them were returned because of hardware faults (because they're easier to return than a desktop).
Your IT guy doesn't know SHIT!
I had 3 of my laptops reburbished, NEVER had a problem with it, the one I got at the apple store came with HD problems and a dead pixel that apple does not replace.
Refurbished means:
somebody found a problem on the unit then returned it, manufacturer fixes problem and puts the product up to DEFAULT SELLING STANDARDS
but can't sell at the same price on an unopened box. Also on the list:
Window display boxes, un-opened returns, opened return with no problems under the 15 - 30 warranty day, etc.Apple gives you full warranty and they are eligible for apple care, so get the EXACT PRIVILEGES YOU GET WITH NEW ITEMS, just cheaper..
The way I see it, you let other betatest the product for you, then pay less.
your IT guy doesn't know SHIT!

we really like ours.
one good point I heard is that they are tested after they are reassembled which new ones arent.

Ive only ever bought refurbs (ibook, imac, pb) and they've all been great...you still get a warranty, ya know.

"I know there's still the warranty, but I'd rather it just not break, or be really less likely to break, you know? "
Nothing is going to guarantee that the new one won't break. I was planning on buying a new one this weekend and have been considering the refurb all week. I'd save $500 off the bat and know it still has the same warranty.

i've owned a powerbook and now a macbook pro, both refurbs. great price. absolutely no problems. the macbook has a small bend next to the latch; likely the reason for the return. don't be scared.
