Nice image galleries?

I'm looking for a gallery script, non-flash that works smoothly cross-browser. Any ideas?
Preferably easy to update it by just uploading pics to a certain folder and it generates the gallery, and you just enter captions / gallery name manually. Also has to work with several different galleries.
Your help would be enormously appreciated on this stressed day.

have you searched sourceforge. net? lots of galleries up there, with different options. some are pretty ugly but can be configured.
