I am lame. I hook my MBP up to my Dell monitor. Close the lid. Wiggle the mouse around. I get my desktop for 10 seconds and it cuts out. Wiggle the mouse, it shows for 10 seconds, then desktop cuts out again.
Anyone know if I am missing a setting?
The other problem is in Windows mode it doesn't work at all.

Close the lid, putting the mac to sleep, and wake it up with an usb device - ie. unplug the mouse and plug it back in.
Not sure about Windows, probably you need to preconfigure both displays in display prefs panel and then restart the machine closing the lid right after pressing power button. Works on my old dell, never tried on the mac
