whats the trick? im putting it in but i cant get it to show up to burn some data!

I've had this problem too. Never really got solved. I think it might be a burner issue. Haven't been able to burn DVDs for months.
Also, have you installed Toast or anything? A second burn software can zonk out the native I am told.

What brand of DVD? Is it DVD+R or -R?

sometimes it needs to be initialized and it can help to update yer burning software very now and then..
