b
and increase the line spacing (overal) and the kerning of 'fifth'

A. by a landslide. Looks nice. Not sure about the color...
I'd shy away from corporate blue in that other version. It looks too familiar & typical of that industry. Whihc means, when given the option, he'll probably pick that one.
I saw just show version A, and tell him that's it...this is your logo. Maybe give some options for color only. The magenta doesn't seem to suit industry, tho.

A.
But without the pink color.

typography in A is good - hate the pink. the key is tellng an old house basement story.
The mark in B feels 80's and the font is blah.

maybe update/simplify the key a bit?

A is my favorite. Maybe instead of the pink, use the teal from B?

I think you may be able to subtly get the key shape into the "i" in fifth - that may be interesting

I commend your use of Plantin in A, which is the better option but I agree with others that the key needs to look less victorian but still chubb style, make the F work more as a key , it's a nice idea, make more of it!

thanks so far everyone. when i spoke to my friend he mentioned the chase logo, so i want to show him something he would be comfortable with.
i'll rework the key a little. i don't want it to come across as antiquated, but at the same time don't want the mark to be too large a departure from the type. also i thought an older look might help lend credence to a newer company.
and baskerville, forgive my naïvety, but what is chubb style? do you have any references?

b looks solid and trustworthy to me
also will look better at small sizes or screen and the mark can work on top of the logo. gives you more interchangeability for different supports.
the key reminds me of 'treasury' not exactly investment or risk. the area of their financial expertise may be important to define the more.

The bottom right logo is OK (b), but just OK. The icon to the left of the logo doesn't indicate that its a real-estate development/property management company?
I mean, if i just seen that icon (with the S enclosed in a rectangular shape) then i would know what kind of company it is.
Sort that icon out! Make an icon that states what the company does. Then you'll be on to a winner.
