producing a website with an external xml document containing all the texts.
this text has emailaddresses in it every now and then.
how can i make the email addresses clickable when the text is loaded dynamically into a textfield in flash?

do it with php as the info comes out of the db
http://uk.php.net/manual/en/func…
there is a function on that page to do it just search the pgae for "email"

make the flash text render as HTML and then just include the tags in the xml doc. The tags should look like regular html link. Flash will figure it out

Err, wont the tags be recognised as an XML element? Surely that's the real problem.
(I solved this problem myslef but not in a pretty way.)

not if yr using html text fields

"Flash will figure it out"
hmmm, i have the textfield 'Render text as html' ON.
but the email link tag in the XML document is read as a XML node.
as a result the place where the emailaddres should be placed in the text is empty...

are you using CDATA tags in your xml document?

- stewart0

the tags may look screwy... NT doesn't let you render tags for script examples, so I staggered the '

you sure you use:
textfield.htmlText="blah"; instead of textfield.text="blah";cause that's where i mostly mistake... .
- stewart0
exactly Timson. that's what i do.
but without success till now.
still searchin...
- stewart0
basically...
i want to do with xml what i did with .txt
in a .txt file i can for example add hyperlinks with actionscript code...
like this: http://pastebin.coconut.se/?id=4…
i think i'm going back to .txt then?
- st33d0
Like this?
myXML = new XML('mylink]]>');
node = myXML.firstChild.firstChild;
this.createTextField("txt", this.getNextHighestDepth(), 0, 0, 300, 100);
txt.html = true;
txt.htmlText = node.nodeValue;
- st33d0
Bugger, hang on....

st33d
i figured something out... seems to work now.
the only problem i have now that i can't get rid of the 'tabs' that i use in the xml. they also show up as whitespace in the textfield.
this is how i load the xml
http://pastebin.coconut.se/?id=4…
- joyride0
does the tab variable trace out with data or is it just not showing up in the textfield?
- joyride0
wait, what do you mean tabs?
could you post the xml in the pastebin also
