Im assuming you have the Intel based Mac. Im not sure on Fireworke or flash but what really helped me with the slow down with PS and Illustrator was loading up on RAM. Also illustrator will crash if you dont turn off the "appearance" pallete and close and restart illustrator. Also if you have illustrator and photoshop running make sure you save you illustrator files (and ps) before switching to ps because lllustrator tends to crash when you are using photoshop with it open. Just a few helpful (hopefully) hints.

Dear Gilbert Fenn
I don't care about your .com, I don't even own the .net anymore
So keep trying/faling

Nope never came across that. What are you doing when it locks up? And how does it exactly lock up? I sometimes have problems finding it on the tools palette if I am using a large brush.

when I mean trouble finding it on the tool palette: I will have a large brush and go over to select another tool ill roll over the tool palette and my cursor will dissappear, but thats just when I am to lazy to use a hotkey, LOL, which is most of the time.

feel sorry for you mate

losing the cursor when a large brush is selected has always been a problem. as long as part of the the brush is over the canvas, the cursor will not show.
