San Serifs that render well at smaller sizes

Curious what everyone uses for things like navigation or buttons... when the typeface needs to be 11pt or smaller? What are your favorite typefaces for these instances? (and not pixel fonts... or comic sans)

Many sans fonts have been developed specifically for electronic media. The most readable sans-serif fonts are broad, providing ample space between letters, which facilitates recognition. In the opinion of most studies, Verdana is the most effective font for online text.
Verdana is specifically good for body text, because it’s a broad and spacious font, which leaves an ample square space for each letter. This makes it easier to distinguish each different letter at low resolutions.

I got you, Glen. Jevad was on track. Look for wide, squarish faces with large x-heights. Make sure to space them generously. I've used all of the following at small sizes in GIFs to good effect:
