wonder how much porn they'll find on it?

anyone ever seen the robots that the Romans made?
they were automated things powered by sand pouring out and dropping weights which turned pulleys and moved wheels. they used them to automate objects during theatre performances.
by winding the string round the wheels differently they could 'program' the things to like .. go forward for a wee bit then turn a certain way then carry on etc.fascinating genius stuff -seen them on tv a while back.

i saw that kan, same line as that spinning steam engine too they had. i was reading about the Antikythera Mechanism earlier in the times, interesting stuff. the history channel had a show on it awhile back.

"Using advanced imaging techniques, an Anglo-Greek team probed the remaining fragments of the complex geared device."
They are inferrring that it looks like that based upon that archeological piece?
Fuck that!

(Nov 29 06, 14:25)Now that was bad-ass, but they found entire portions of that, not a fucking wedge of rock.
And although this is clearly archeology, I studied paleontology in school and I call BS.

*ponders for too long on witty reply

(Nov 29 06, 14:46)I think they're going on a little more than The Pop-Up Book of Dinosaurs for their findings.
- mpfree0
I suppose. I'm not doubting the legitimacy of whether it's ancient or not.
I don't like that super large contraption they infer it looked like. I'm doubting it.
They should rename that to, "Float Our Own Boat Computer"

hahaha!
+1

hehee, I mean it's a fucking piece of petrified wood, give or take.
Permineralized shat with some sprocket springs stickin out of it.
Goddamnit, they do that with Noah's Ark too.
"this boat was bloody 80 feet tall and Noah was 6'4" and had a cape like Obi Wan."
yeahhhhhhhh k...
o_O
- doesnotexist0
they found jesus. he was black!
- ********0
the +1 was for rocketeggs comment btw..
- Rocketegg0
Ok, I agree that it's pretty speculative to say it looked like that but as for what it was used for, I'm sold.
- mpfree0
Ohh yeah, very well could be. Smart contraption for it's day. In fact, probablt cutting edge.
I was comparing the techniques in Archeo, Paleo and Anthro.
I should have been more clear.
;)
