ok well ill try to explain this and maybe unfit or anarc can help.
I have a bit of an issue. I am working on an app with JAVA & AS3. The app functions as an SMS gateway where message are filtered then qued to tcp in XML. Now the front-end has to be published in 7...not in 8 or 9. Therefore, in the shell or front-end I need to open a port by tcp and pull the xml. I felt the most efficient approach would be to create an XMLSocket. With this the shell is connecting and opening the port successfully, but when I attempt to pull the data my traces seem to be server configs(linux). Now my question is, is the XMLSocket the correct solution. Moreover, if not any ideas to how to open the tcp port and parse the xml? Here is the connection code that I am currently working with.
Thanks in advanced.

can you just us the xml.load function?
I've not had to use the XMLSocket, but i've got a similar environment with Java & AS2 and I use xml.sendAndLoad to send of the request and get the xml data response.
Do you know the name of the XML file? does it change?

- AS 3 is for Flash Player 9 ONLY.
- AS 3 has xml and binary sockets.
- Your code seems to be AS 2, with poorly implemented OOP.
- If you can't explain to your client/boss why it is necessary to deploy your application on the latest player, better don't do it at all.

Paul, The code I posted was basically a copy and paste from Adobe just to give an example of what I was thinking. Unfortunately, I started this project really late in the game and when the requirements were presented to me i.e. Player 7 with the back-end being AS3/JAVA I made this aware to the client and proposed an http call. The reason for the post was to see if this solution would work since I have to use AS 1 or 2. I did not think that it would work and per your post you agree. Now I do not have to was time on something that is not possible or if it is a hugh work around. Thanks for your help
