Any suggestions for sites where I can find sweet flats for rent at a great price in downtown London?

(I know cheap/downtown/London don't go together.... though some help will be appreciated)

peckham. no lie. 25 mins to the city on the train. cheaper than brixton etc, interesting and good. had a great year there last year.

somehow I don't think you are going to find sweet with cheap, but I guess you already know that
I can only imagine the inflated prices. o_O

forget peckham, bin and gone, east london, cable street, cable studio, Bow, white chapel, mile end, is where its at!

http://www.moveflat.com
http://www.loot.complus, like a million estate agents, though none will be 'cheap'
And 'downtown' doesn't really exist, you need to educate yourself on areas and what you want, central London has many different spots, and most of them are out of your budget, unless you are a)rich and b)stupid

yea like rasko said you need to know which area you want to live in. Then jump to location and search with this:

What are you after? Styling? Suburbs? Community? Anonymity?

yeah east london rules - borough of hackney, shoreditch for going out, stoke newington for food, cheap places like clapton border on the good areas but have a affordable housing

lol at downtown.
we're in tower hill and it's still 2 trains to get to work. PLUS severe delays.

I live in whitechapel, walk to work in shoreditch.....tell you, going 'up west' is a pain in the ass!

here's a clue about renting a nice flat in a decent area in central london:
you can't afford it.

Hi currently live in a shared house in East Dulwich. People moving out end of Jan. Is £400 pcm excluding bills and is 3mins from station. I've been here 3 yrs and the area has changed beyond belief, loads of bars/nice middle class shops!! Let me know if interested and will keep you posted.
Cheers Johnny

im moving outta my place in soho in january, so if you want to throw money away like its goin outta fashion, feel free to move into our place. Its nice, but tiny.
the strippers downstairs keep pressing our fucking buzzer and waking us up. Fattys!

It IS possible to find a nice place in London for reasonable rent. Those people who say it's not are just jealous – you have to just LOOK!
My gaff's £580 per month, in whitechapel and it's a massive joint! Extra money spent on rent is saved on walking to work / tuve costs etc

found a huge room very close to shoreditch/brick lane for 600 pcm in a shared house, via gumtree.
But we saw nice and horrible housing all around london.
Just a suggestion: avoid Kilburn

I was under the impression he was after renting a flat, not a room.
No offence but whitechapel is a bit of a dump, I know, as I used to live there, sure it's handy for brick lane/spitalfields etc but there's not much option without travel come a nice sunny afternoon.

As a resident of Shoreditch I think the East is pretty cool short term. Loads of places to rent.
Personally, I'm moving to Kew, but them I am becoming an old git.
But listing affordable places centrally, in no particular order:
Shoreditch, Wapping, Camden, Bayswater, Notting Hill, Bethnal Green, Hammersmith, Shepards Bush, Maida Vale, to name but a few.
