Hi NT,
Ok so the suituation is this...
Iv be lucky enough to be offered a lot of web work through some contacts. They want some really advanced web stuff, lots of dynamic stuff with databases, sales rep login's and search functions. All of which I have never created on the web before! Fortunately I have got a Code head on board to do all the server side scipting and database stuff.
Thing is iv agreed to do all the interface stuff. Iv never done this sort of thing before but its too big an opportunity to pass up. Can anyone recommend any decent resources on the web to help me with creating php/asp/xml pages.
I guess I need some general advice also/ but would really appreciate it if people could point me in the right direction.
Many thanks

the only advice i can give you is to never llie about what you can not accomplish no matter how great the job can be or become.
people are depending on you to make it happen.
i hope you can complete this opportunity and i hope you also learn from it.
your rep is all you have and your clients are what help keep you alive with that rep.
dont burn bridges before then are built, meaning dont lie about hwat you cant accomplish.
good luck!!

Witt is correct, it never stops and you always keep learning!!!
always try to make 10 steps forward for every 2 stpes backwards and always always get it in writing!!!
a verbal agreement is worth the same thing as a cootie shot!!!

Seriouly, this is not the time to learn a new tool dude!
Your a resourcefull designer, just write it into the cost. Get a quote for someone like www.sire.co.uk to take the ball ake off you.
That way you can foucs on the other stuff, provide 150% (that they will continue using you) and show you can problem solve!
Spot on sunny, i reckon!!
Good luck!!

When you first start out common sense says not to go around shouting "i can build a whole city" when you don't know how to build a basic shed.
Push yourself yes, but start just beyond your means.

Phew!,
I suppose the lesson here is to manage/ correct peoples expectations.
They think that because im a designer, (2year doing print in marketing agency and prototype website for the client) see– http://www.3rdwavetelecom.com/ho…
that i can make it all just work
and do all the back end stuff as well.Looks like im going to need to get some other people involved.
Frustrating thing is its web work that I want to do and its web work im being offered all the time.

Thanks for those links stewart!
I know there is a lot of talented and experieced developers and designers on here so thank you for all the advice guys, sorry if it pissed some people off :-(
Yes things are very challenging when your starting out, but thats part of the learning process surely?
Iv already designed the interface and navigation etc...
Im downloading some vid files from VTC and Lynda about dynamic content for sites. See how it goes.
