Sucks but it's better than him fizzing out pretty badly. And I was just thinking before too, he hasn't really been racing so it's not as much a "shock".

yep, most of the media are acting as though he's a commodity that we deserve to get more out of.
the dude has done incredible things and having known a few professional swimmers myself i know how much of someone's life is taken from such a committment.
i hope he lives it up but doesn't screw himself up in the process. going from a sheltered lifestyle to anything he wants will be a dangerous time methinks!
i'm just glad i've never had any talent so i could just kick back and do nuthin' with my life.

It's funny to see on the front page of the SMH site ( http://www.smh.com.au ) that they're trying to get the most emotional picture of him and the biggest possible headline. I think watching the site today they've already tried like three or four headlines and photos. So sad.
