Im looking to print out a pdf file that has been exported from indesign. The problem i have is to do with the fact that im trying to print type that has been placed on top of an image and then applied with a "multiply" effect on the transparency settings (so that the type is effectively on top but the image shows through. The type looks fine on screen but when i export to PDF and preview it for print it disappears! Grr.
Anyone have any ideas where im going wrong? Ive looked through all exprot to pdf settings in indesign but alas no joy with that. Thought it might be to do with overprinting but apparently not.
Maybe i just have to print straight as an indd. file?

    Any help much appreciated!

use the print or press settings when exporting straight to a pdf. If that doesnt work, try printing to a ps file then distilling it. if that doesnt wrk, thy exporting as an .eps file, then distiling.

if none of that works, then you're pdf preferences are fucked. Ask a printer to supply you with some preferences.

"simulate overprint" setting in advanced or something?

    Yip, it's a transparancy issue.

When you export for PDF make sure you've selected Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3) in the compatibilty menu, top right of the window. Then in the Advanced menu set the transparency flattner to High Res. The export. This will flatten the whole document down onto one layer, as it were, and removing the problem. Hope this helps!

    Its a weird one.
Ive tried that simulate overprint option thinking it would sort the problem but it hasnt. Cheers for your advice agent4. I think im just gonna have to try printing it out in a different format.
Its a bastard problem though and one id like to solve for the future so if anyone out there has the solution then post up!

PAT, i tried what you said but it didnt seem to help unfortunately.

Thankfully though i just sorted it all out. It was pretty simple really and i shouldve thought of this from the start -
    Create outlines for the type!

    Thanks for the help all.....
