ooops, wrong thread.

most of the cms's I found were too powerful, I didnt want the client to be able to creat new pages and mess with layouts. I made a verry simple one that lets the client only edit the text area between my divs. I used the fck editor( turned to basic mode) and php to write to text files, and just made a login page to get to the edit page.
Its very simple and easy for dumb clients to use.

u got a copy online somewhere jrobertblack?

(Nov 18 06, 14:04)sounds like you needed anyone w/ either ZOPE and python skills then. it is infact a very easy to use application, but for any admin who has not ever worked as a true computer scientist or in a software development environment, it could be daunting.
remember, it is not like any other 'CMS' as it is an application server or imense power. drupal is good for sure, but no where near the scale or capability as plone.
sorry to hear it did not work out for your group- it is working wonders across the globe for many large projects.

So I stripped this example for you, and took out the userlogin(just add your own before the editor page), I also added the advanced editor so you can see the difference.

cheers for that jrobertblack, that plone looks quite good with some helpful videos to help you set it up

I take that back, the installation seems alot more complex. can anyone help me out?
Im sure its something simple, i dont understand why you have to install something on my local machine????unlike other CMS seem to just give you the file and let u upload them

I'm starting to get used to Wordpress.
wonderful how it's flexible to separate categories, pages... customize, add plugins, etc.. etc...
I'm curious how will cosmos's new CmS goinna be like.
- springbok0
how does wordpress work? do u essentially have your clients site as a blog running on thier servers? or can you download files and upload them to your own server?
- str3ss0
@ cosmo, would love to see what you're cooking
@jrb :: nice lil back end app! thanks for sharing

(Nov 19 06, 10:04)umm..... of course you need to install something on your local machine- the data store and application server (in this case) making up the CMS!! :) what don't you understand?
i have never, in any circumstances, ever heard of what you are describing. the only way you can run a CMS is to 'install' it on the server (or proxy if remotely authoring the content using the CMS) in which the site is deployed... that is your local machine in this case.
did i miss something?
- springbok0
yea but i want it to be on my server and not on my local machine

What are you looking for in a CMS? for smaller projects i would use wordpress or textpattern
- madirish0
"yea but i want it to be on my server and not on my local machine"
cool, just install it there either via ssh, or uploading and running through a VPN or whatever you are most comfortable with. it is not compiled as a remote installer, clearly.
"mardish"

is what i use over and over again.
my customization skills are growing to the point i can use this for any website as a cms, not just blogs!
:D
and it is so easy!
still looking forward to cosmo's contribution..
- pascii0
i definately use plone. best ever ; )
- mpfree0
PLONE is a piece of bloody shit.
Better get used to the Python programming language and Zope application server.
Most people have no clue. You'll run into problem after problem with it.
The themes suck too.

send me a email I send u some screenshots, also not finished yet but already rocking
- Nairn0
what've you done so far with textpattern, crouwel? may we see?
i'm looking for a good mod-able cms to hack away at, as i'm too stupid to do my own from scratch.
