Has anyone thought about or tried to learn after effects after flash. Is it a difficult transistion to make? I have been using flash for about 5 years and lately mainly as an animation tool and im starting to think im missing out on something.. I guess if you want to start doing stuff for TV you should right?!

I did. Was using Flash for 7 years, mainly as an animator too and then went over to AFX. Very very different, takes a while to get used to the timeline but once you do you'll love it. Just a different way of animating and thinking about time and space. So many more things you can do. I'm still very basic at AFX after about a year, just lets you know how many things are possible in AFX. Grab a book and start experimenting. Good luck.

Yeah it takes a while to get used to the way it works. I see it as Photoshop with a timeline (well, sort of).
Check out this for the real basics.

I did as well, and my experience was "wow, now I can doo all the things Flash can't do."
What I would stress though, is taking the time to learn about how video works, frame rates, interlacing, formats, resolutions, all that stuff. It will save you so many hours of trouble shooting down the road.

haha, just export as a a PNG sequence or FLV with alpha channel...but yeah I know exactly what you mean...I started with flash and then went to AE...they are quite different, but understanding how any timeline works with keyframes will be helpful to your learning. Also, start on AE 7 if you can, much better and cleaner, and you wont cry when you fire it up and look at the interface!

the best thing is no actionscript, but there are many other things to learn about.
