I'm here! I go away for a few days and someone starts a Waits thread without me! I'm in Toronto and not in Jersey so my timelines are all out of whack. So Bolus yes, I've got it, it was doing the rounds on blogs and I couldn't resist. I will obviously be buying it though. It's pretty much his basement tapes and if like me you've heard the rare stuff you'll pretty much know most of it. The new stuff is good though.
And Moth, if he ever plays in Europe again fight for a ticket. I've seen im twice now so can gladly step out of line. If he does tour and I hear anything in advance from the forums I'll let you know.

(Nov 13 06, 05:41)A headsup would be most welcome. His tickets are notoriously hot. I was about 1 hour late the last time - all gone.
Who' gonna hook me up then?

Ok ok, best place to look for any advance news is http://eyeballkid.blogspot.com
He's called Henk and he always seems to find out about the tours before anyone else. Moth the London Show was great but I saw him in Paris in 2000 and that show was awesome. It was seated but you could get right up to the stage. All the Frenchies were so reserved it was ridiculous. Anyhow, gotta go guys, gotta check out some Toronto design firms.

Hmm - I'd never really listend to him 'til JRD hooked up some tracks in a recent FMT and must admit that the thought of listening to an album's worth of gravelly monotone might grate a little.
That said, if the man quotes Bukowski, maybe I should just shut up and actually LISTEN to what he's trying to say.
I just wish he'd lay off the JD and clear his bloody throat.

i love that! that's makes it so bloody real.
also, it is his way of singing, not his actual everyday voice..

He hasn't drunk since 81 Nairn. Try Raindogs, Bone Machine or Mule Variations as good introductions. Anything pre-Raindogs is more conventional and less 'difficult' shall we say. Much more lounge bar jazz. He's probably the only artist I know who hasn't mellowed as he's got older. Quite the opposite...

I've got some VH1 Storytellers sessions you should listen to Nairn. He's a great storyteller, songwriter, musician, actor.
I could only draw a comparison to Nick Cave.
Have a drink on a rainy afternoon and give him another listen.
And smoke.
