Hello. in Freehand there's an option to simulate the separations printer. Is it reliable for common small business printer devices or is there a better way to do this? thx in advance.

If your goal is to print the plates seperately, then it's the way to go.
- vsc0
the thing is i don't know how it is going to be printed. i think it is a laser print. no plates.
- vsc0
it's a cover for a friend to print in those uni printing-shops. so it's probably a laser printer...

then you don't have to worry about seperations, those are only for fancy big-boy printers.
it's usually very helpful when you have a 2-color job and want to make sure there's no extra colors rolling around that would drive the cost of printing up.

so, if i make a pdf or send the original FH file it comes out approximately as i see it? it's all basic colours.

Unless your print job is going out to be press printed at a shop, then don't worry about it. If it's just being inkjet or laser printed, you are fine.

I'd call Flash Gordon about lasers, he knows his stuff. He told me to avoid Kinko's and PIP cause they're all retards. He was right too.

whats freehand..... :)
I would call the shop and ask what kinda file they would like to get from you, getting their specs is the best way.
press quality pdf should do the trick.
im assuming this is a 4 color job, no spot colors.

yeah, i'm noticing freehand leaves you a bit in the dark when setting things up. pdf it will be.
thanks all. you've been most helpful. have a nice sunday.

KINKO'S IS THE LAUGHING STOCK OF THE PRINT WORLD!!!!!

I went to Kinko's to ask if they could print to A3 - they went through three people before they told me "yes". So I go to print in the self-service centre and there's no A3 paper. I go ask someone and they say "oh we don't stock A3". I then ask "what about tabloid extra?" and he says "yes". I go to print and hey presto there's no tabloid extra paper. I go ask someone and they direct me to some lovely brightly coloured US letter paper, and some high quality resume paper, even some card, but no tabloid extra. All that time on the Mac station cost me $15. Did I get a refund? Did I f*ck.
I asked a half-dead cat at the side of the road and he said he could do a better job with some marker pens and an old newspaper.

i went to Kinko's in Amsterdam once. Had no choice but to buy a card for 30 bucks. I only needed a few prints. I saw people standing in line with printouts. They all looked like a transparent green was laid over the prints. the people did not care. they were all students in all sorts of fields BUT design.
I told the rasta behind the counter i was not planning to print if mine was to come out that greenish as well.
he said they all looked perfect. and everything was carefully calibrated.
so i said fuck it, i already got the card and went for a print.
it was completely green. even the deepest black was green.
i told the fucker he could stick the card up his arse if i could not get a refund.
when i walked out there i saw a junkie who printed even better with his blood soaked HIV needle on the fucking pavement.

why the hell would you go to kinkos to print anything design related unless it's bw?
i used to work there too, no one knows what theyre doing. could've told you flat out right away we cant print on a3 unless you bring the paper in.
the color machines even when calibrated are complete shit.
i laugh at all of you and your bad kinkos stories. HA!

kinkos stinks more then a slice of bacon from satan's deep inner butt cheek.
