Reformat my drive

go to:
- apps
- utilities
- Disk Utility
- select the volume you wish to format
- format it
- 3 ways, sideways.... (seriously, that is an option)

you need to back everything up and then start up off of the original CD (or some version of OS X on CD), you can reformat from there.

(Nov 9 06, 11:24)if it's your startup disk you'll need to boot and run disk utility off the OS X DVD.
and option to zero that ish.
(option/ zero all data)

Thanks- but- there is no where that it says format ir. I chose the volume- Macintosh HD and below it only says Verify Disk Permission, Verify Disc and Repair Disk Permissions

or if you've done that already, look under the next button/ window "erase".

I don't have my start up disc- is there a way to do it without?

If you don't have your start-up disc, how did you plan on reinstalling your OS?

(Nov 9 06, 14:17)yikes!
you'll be left with a lifeless box of computer parts if you reformat without an OS X install disk.
best find that CD or DVD.

*whimpers
startup disc = drive you have OSX installed on
install disc = CD with OSX installer on it (sort of essential, otherwise all you can do is repair/tuneup your current installation)
