saw it for the 1st time last night. great flick, can't decide if the ending was an easy way out or not.

(Nov 9 06, 10:36)That's kind of the point of the ending. It is the easy way out and it's a deus ex machina. He does everything the writing coach says not to do, but "wows" you in the end. I think it's Kaufman's joke.
Love that movie.

Exactly harlequino. The twins are basically a play on the Epstein brothers too.
- harlequino0
Yup that's right Mimio, I forgot about that part. It ties in so coolly wth the continued references to Casablanca as the greatest screenplay ever.

(Nov 9 06, 10:36)That's the whole point! The movie is documenting his struggle to "adapt" the book to a movie. In the end he gives up and hits every hollywood cliche to make it "popular". Pretty much the definition of dramatic irony. (since we the audience see it going on, but not the character)

don't overintellectualize it now.
pls.

but yeah, soler is right. but i guess you can't miss that irony, or..?
the compressed bulk of film clichés that happen to the screenwriter loathing them so much?
- acedeuce0
i was joking when i asked the initial question. just wanted to start some dialogue.
glad too see there's some other fans out there. ps: Michel Gondry is my hero.
Why did he direct Dave Chappelle's Block party again?

Cage was pretty solid in Leaving Las Vegas also...
- acedeuce0
one of my earliest memories of movies as a kid was about a baby in a crib with cage in vegas.
growing up i learned it was 'Raising Arizona.' Also a good flick.

no subs?
