with dreamweaver. constantly waits until the 200MB file is uploaded after 2 hours to lose the connection and restart the upload. not to mention the preview that looks like none of the browsers render it.
i hate it i hate it i hate it

why are you using dreamweaver to upload stuff? why?

//because the ftp in DW is awesome

photoshop to design
textpad to code
cute ftp to uploadAll 3 are designed to do only that and be great at it.
Drop dreamweaver, code from scratch and soon enough you dont have to think about it.
Unless you want the site to work in IE, then you're as fucked as the rest of us..

sorry, but coding in textpad is just a fools game.
dreamweaver as a code editor is second to none, as is it's document management.

dw is a great tool, but
- I don't rely on the preview for other purposes than selecting items I want highlighted in code
- never used its ftp

(Nov 9 06, 01:35)WTF?! Websites should be programmed so they work on all browsers! Especially IE!! Okay it's crap, but like it or not more people use it than any other browser.
I had this same problem with a programmer I used to work with... He'd tell me it was sorted and it all works fine, and when I'd look it'd be fucked... When I'd challenge him about it he'd scratch his said and say "Oh it worked fine in Firefox"
... "I don't give a flying **** if it works in Firefox, if it doesn't work in IE, Safari etc it's useless to me!"
Rant over
*takes a deep breath

I'll use dw ftp for large static sites, to update text amends and such.
it's only single threaded though, so uploading 500 html files - it's not the right tool for the job.

BBedit to code, I am just waiting for a plugin that will "hint" at the word/code you are trying to type.
Also a plugin that will put in the Doc type before you start coding.
I am afraid to say that I manage all my sites form the DW FTP. Is there any other software that you cn store all your FTP settings but doesn't time out?

dw is a superb tool for file management, and why not? for coding.
I use it combinned with notepad, topstyle and other programs as external editor, and works fine for me.
Uploading a mountain of files or heavy files, use cuteftp, regenerate cache in dw and use the sync tool for upload changing files.

I used to use DW for code but I've switched to HTML kit, mainly cos the programmers in my work use it, but I like its simplicity compared to DW, though it still has quite a broad feature base.

Had time to sleep it off. Still hate it but now I'm using Cyberduck to upload and it seems to be going just ducky.
That was terrible.

I'm building a site right now for a band in Chicago, the second one I've done since building my band's new site back in July.
Made a nice css template originally and it was a cinch to just change out url's and widths with notepad's find and replace.
Then, my host has a nice text editor built into the file manager so I don't really upload very much after a few original files.I used to use dreamweaver and never upgraded past 4.
With the web dev toolbar in firefox and notepad there's really not much more you need.

used to use dreamweaver until i worked with a developer that was on a pc and it would always ALWAYS unwrap all the code when he sent me code back. so i switched go GoLive.
but usually it's photoshop to imageready, then imageready to golive, then upload with TRANSMIT which i love.
i have never used DW's ftp, i thought it had...extra chromosomes.
