What is the deal with all these companies asking for the world and only offering peanuts in return?
Have a look at some of the ads in the NTB – Here & Now are asking for a shit-kicking-multi-talented designer who is print and web savvy for -wait for it- - - - - - 18-20k? surely that's the salary for a pre-pube junior-middleweight who should be at least be on 23-25k with reliable web and print skills?!?
Sounds like that person's gonna be really busy and scrimping by on that salary after the government's taken their bite.
I dunno. I'll shut up and go home now.

You might be working in Ethiopia, where the cost of living is almost that of a bazooka gum.

i interviewed for an in-house job last year. the meeting went very well, blah blah blah. gave salary requirements. and then waited... called... waited called...
then i ran across and ad for the position i interviewd for. apparently i overshit their salary offer by about 20K. person interviewd with was very sharp and very nice, but unfortunately they got what they paid for.

good for you, i couldn't hold out much longer and had to settle for a cut of -5k and the mortgage bites deeper and deeper and rates and bills get dearer and dearer every fucking year. why can't employers understand that they're not the only ones who need to save some cash?
I'm thinking of a side-line in arms sales, I hear you make more money through killing people than you do by saving them.

Yeah, what's getting me even more angry are the ads on TV for people to come up with their next super bowl ad. Save them 1M or so and we get bragging rights. I see this all the time. What a rip off.

Not quite the same thing, but I got sick of it the other day.
An MC i shot for a music piece a while back called and wanted to "see" a bunch of my photos from the shoot. Turns out he wanted to use them on his album and in some promo material and didn't think he should have to pay for them since they were already shot.
I told him i would be happy to shoot the cover for him... then i quoted a price a few hundred over my normal rate...

That sort of shit pisses me off. Photographers have the right idea, charging for usage - agree to where the image will be shown and if it is to be shown any where else they get additional fees/deal. I've done similar stuff - promo work for a set top box for a TV company and they went and used it as their fucking global identity - cheeky bastards...then they have the gall to think it's ok, like saying I paid to see King Kong once, why can't I see it anytime and place I like for free.

(Nov 6 06, 09:20)I've realized this only recently when i started my freelance gig.
I have a wife and a baby to feed so I value my work much more then ever.
It feels good.

@ babaganush... speechless, and yet not surprised.
werd sherman. I'm about to get married and we're trying to buy a house and all that.
I have been taking a much dimmer view of people looking to rip me off now that it's not all about me anymore.
Used to be if someone ripped me off, i bitched an moaned about it and and drank it off (hehe)... but now i'm a lot more aware and cautious of how i could get screwed before i even start a job.
