I see this from time to time, sites that offer a service or a forum want the users to buy prints / shirts / etc or else the site will shutdown... i understand this to a point but couldnt you just as easily try and get a sponsor or sell a block of ad space on it ??
what are your thoughts ?
should you feel guilted into supporting sites or should it be up to them to find there own solution.

it really depends on the site. independentgamereviews.com with a giant 'sponsored by sony' ad would be an obvious conflict of interest. adverstisers and sponsors want something in return, your average fan wants a t-shirt and is easier to please.
