hi - i am so pissed with all this spam, what antispam app do you recommend if i am using mail 2.1 on my mac.
I remember an article in a recent mac user which gave a load of hints for using mail and there was recommended in there but i cant find it...cheers m'dears

just use te great spam tool that is part of Mail. go to:
prefs-> accounts-> mailbox behaviors then the junk mail setting and have it leave them in your inbox, but 'training' to filter the messages. once you have done this for a little bit (not sure how long that is, but probably researchable), you can switch this setting to have them automatically be dumped into a seperate Junk folder, then do what you will with them (ie- save, delete right away, delete after a week, etc.)HTH

cheers for that madrich, I have done that actually but it still misses the 40 or so bits of crud i get day and then flags a mail from a mate as junk - grrr :)

gmail.
switched all my accounts to it last year and haven't looked back, and I was swimming in spam.

hmmmm... dammit.
well, the 'best' way to control spam is to squelch it at the mail server. i would look into some filtering app there, that way you local version and webmail are accounted for- and any other accounts you have on it.
other wise, yes gmail is very good and with the url option it now has (i use it for one company i have), it is working awesome.
good luck duder.

cheers guys, i think one of my problems is that i am paranoid that any antispam thing is going to trash that one import email, so i would probably end up trawling through the junk anyway to double check it all.
anyone remember that mac user article im looking for?

Make sure you're using specific mailboxes if you have an unlimited pop account.

gmail, gmail, gmail.
t doesn't delete your spam for weeks, just keeps it outa your inbox, maybe 2 or 3 things get through google's filters a week, which is pretty darn good in my book.

it should cost all people 1 cent per send mail. the money made from this should go to poor people somewhere or aids research or whatever..
this would lower spam by a 1000%

gmail is bad ass. you can connect it to mail as well. since ive done that, spam has decreased dramatically.

"it should cost all people 1 cent per send mail. the money made from this should go to poor people somewhere or aids research or whatever..

but poor people deserve free email

well, I can see the problem if you make a buck a day. But poor people gets spam too, so I'm sure there could be some solution.
