Why does my local supermarket want to sell me potatoes from Spain?
There's needless pollution right there.

veggie pumps is only a half-arsed and temporary solution.
veggie fuel certainly is not a long term solution.

What makes you all think burning vegetable oil is any better for the environment?
- Concrete0
Biodiesel refers to alkyl esters made from the transesterification of both vegetable oils and/or animal fats. Biodiesel is biodegradable and non-toxic, and has significantly fewer emissions than petroleum-based diesel when burned. Biodiesel functions in current diesel engines, and could in theory supplement fossil fuels as the world's primary transport energy source.

the main problem with bio fuels is finding space to grow them! there's barely enough space for 6 billion people to get on, nevermind a billion vehicles that 'eat' 50 times more than a person!
We can't deforest anymore - and te biggest cause of deforestation the last 10 years has been the soya been industry coz some peeps thinks its better for them than cow milk.

Biodiesel is stop gap solution. It's only good as supplement, and will never function as a viable fuel in it's own right - ie - BioFUEL will always contain diesel.
It exists only to make money in the current climate of climate fear and is not a solution to the fuel crisis or global warming.
And I quote the horses' mouth - not wikipedia.

You are right moth. I'm not debating that. They would only be a stopgap with the other issues you mentioned like space for crops! Maybe more likely in the short term than hydrogen powered or electric cars etc.

people will have to drive less. live nearer work. eat local food.
the last thing we need is moving the wars from the oil fields to the soy farms
