Anyone?
I have a friend that has just been offered a job (which starts in a week) so is looking for rooms/places to rent/stay - so she's a bit panicked!
If anyone knows any recommendations for decent areas that she could look for places in or if anyone has any rooms going.
Cheers

I went to art college in Basingstoke and have not been back since. It's a bit of a hole.
I don't really know where to recommend either. If she doesn't mind a train ride, I would live in one of the other towns nearby - Winchester for example, is a lot better looking than Basingstoke. Maybe Hook.
Don't go to Fleet though.
Whatever she does, don't go to Fleet.

No Idea, will find out where the job is based to see if she can travel. I guess she doesn't want to be any more than 20 mins away ideally - plus she doesnt have a car etc.
haha - whats wrong with fleet?
basingstoke might be a hole but its no worse than a few of the towns she's lived in I bet - believe me!!! she used to live in our house in Hellbury, twinned with Cackford

It's full of chavs! The thought of moving to Basingstoke is a bad one. Sorry.

I was born and raised in Fleet and can't stand the place.
I suppose I would rather live in Basingstoke - having a cinema an all, but I escaped to London years ago which is more than can be said of old school friends who are still there with 4 screaming kids each and no foreseeable future happiness.
It's that grim.
Unless you're 50 and like washing your car on a Sunday an shit....
Poor girl...
Winchester is probably about 30min on the train.

i live in Fleet! haha - i was about to get all defensive but,,, it does suck. i actually live in Church Crookham which is nice, jus next to Fleet.
I'd much rather live here than in Basingstoke -- eugh.

(Oct 30 06, 02:37)Church Crookham is better. Nicer Pubs.
I go back to see my folks every now and then and "try" to go for a drink with friends there. Always end up queuing for entry to shite bars and avoiding fights with idiots.

What are you doing in Fleet anyway? It's hardly the design capital of the south east?
- sair0
there are police cars everywhere you look on fri and sat nights now in fleet, i rarely see any fights but that's proly just luck.
I graduated this year and have not made it out of the nest yet.

where/what did you study?
- sair0
i studied in farnham at university college for creative arts , or surrey institute of art and design as it was called up until recently. And i did graphic communication digital media. did you say you studied in basingstoke?
- ********0
yeah at basingstoke tech.
When everyone else went to Farnborough 6th form, I went there. Best decision I ever made - saved an extra year by not doing foundations etc...Then I went to Portsmouth Uni.
Farnham's got quite a good rep.
When I graduated I was mopping floors and pouring beer for 8 months - in Fleet.
Gives me shivers...

"Hellbury & Cackford....?!"
two of the worst named towns ive ever heard i think

I didn't know there was any design companies in Basingstoke apart from Escape.
Yeah, if she is working in town there are some nice surrounding areas that are an easy commute, Basingstoke does have a relatively big Train station.
Winchester is pricey to live but not a good option if the job pays well, I went to 6th form there.
She could easily commute from. Reading 20mins on the stopping service. THere is more to do there.
;P

PeevTakes Agentfour!!
No fine ladies ever rode into Hellbury, but for some reason they rode into Banbury, and must have left again before I ever moved here!!The job pays okay (mid 20's I think) so budget is more flexible. Plus I can vouch for her as a good tenant. 20 mins does sound about right - tho if it was me I'd wanna be living above the studio I woke at for ease - which I already do! ;)
cheers for the heads up folks - any more help is appreciated.

I live in old basing at the moment but work in london. Its good for transport links as its about an hour from everywhere it seems!
Basingstoke is ok but I am out of there when i can afford it ( first job post uni)
I also studied at bcot for my foundation then went to ports uni to do com des?
good areas in 'amazingstoke' are hatchwarren, old basing.
work in london, much better idea!
- gpop0
a) she has a new job in basing
b) its a 6 month contract - not a life sentence!haha - all well in good saying London is better, infact I'm sure a lot of other place are - NewYork for instance is ace but the job is still in Basingstoke no matter how you look at it.
+ I think London is a little to far to commute from and obviously the rent will be an extra £100-200+will pass on these details tho - give her some hope!!!!
