Oh man. I was fucking kidding about the guns and implants... The hipsters... I'm right about.

Oh, and it takes longer to get most places from Santa Monica than it does from Long Beach...traffic is always bad and the only direct freeway (the 10) is always fucked.
Long Beach also has the blue line, which is way faster than driving and parking, imo. good luck.

Where are you going to be working? If you have a real job, you'll want to live somewhat close to it to avoid traffic. Or you'll want to live in an area that's fun to be around.
But if you have a fake job (er, freelance) then there are a ton of cool areas to live in...H'wood (if you can find good rent), No H'wood (much cheaper but in the Valley), Studio City, Venice, Santa Monica, MdR, Manhattan Beach...really depends on what you need.

I just moved from NYC to LA. I'm now living in Culver City, and it seems to be a nice area with decent restaurants and nice art galleries.

implants are no joke, nor are the hipsters. traffic is f**ked, so make sure you like the interior of your car.
personally, i found WSR to be a joke, if you have a little bit of time, just drive around the areas you like and collect numbers. it's easier AND you get to know L.A. a little bit quicker. downtown is fairly central, but most of the design work is located in santa monica. i also found that the further inland you get the cheaper the rent tends to be, but rent is hell just about anywhere here.
good luck.

i live in burbank, 10-15 from hollywood, downtown (on a clear day), safe, everything is close. glendale and pasadena are cool too. not a 'cool hipster' place but more home/suburban type living.

Long Beach is dope, your gonna love it. I lived there for about 4 years, so much character and so cool for designers. I lived in downtown, in a 1930s hotel it was so cool. awesome shops all around the area. and your close to LA (north) or OC (south)
any way good luck.oh yea remember this LB hidden gem: Brite Spot its a mexican restaurant in long beach, located on Anaheim blvd. simply the best mexican food and maricos!

I second Culver City (pretty centrally located) and one of those up and coming places. But it's very small. And if you want to go anything really cool you'll have to drive.
Pasadena is also one of my favorite towns, but it's kind of in the middle of nowhere. But it's got enough to do there, tons of restaurants and shops. But if you want to go to Hollywood it'll be about a 15 minute drive. Santa Monica /the ocean is about a 45 minute drive with no traffic.
What's your price range? Job situation? Etc?

Long Beach isn't that bad, stop watching the news and rap videos (even though I joke about it alot too). There are actually a lot of great places in Long Beach, and I live there too, so hit me up when you are around.

On Snap, I didn't know you were on here Jeff (fortified).

It's amazing how many people here are so swayed by mindless T.V. images. Long Beach has great pockets to live in and is cheap. More culture there than appears to the eye..Need to search a little. Yeah there are bad areas, but you have nothing to fear. And the commute to L.A. is really not bad. The coastal towns of L.A. are cool too. The hipster areas are so hipster that it's, well, you know...

Are there any good resources about exhibitions, concerts & parties in the LA area on the interweb? Anything like http://www.outside.in/
- ourcommon0
and someone was talking about a commute from Long Beach not being bad ..
I would disagree
have you seen the movie Falling Down ? If I had to do that commute, well, ... it wouldn't be pretty Ill just say that.:)
