this topic has absolutely nothing to do with the mexican border and all to do with "enemy combatants".
stay on target.

I am against any politician stripping any rights away. I guess it has something to do with being American or something...

(Oct 18 06, 14:16)wait so now it's YOUR rights? two seconds ago we were talking about illegal aliens.
like i said. the government isn't out to get YOU.
it's commendable though that you care so much about people who break the law.

doblery-doo...
... do you really think that Bush is going to start tagging 'immigrants and non-citizens in the United States, including more than 12 million permanent residents' as 'enemy combatants'?
I highly doubt that.

it's a cya bill
"Buried deep within the torture bill is this:
... no court, justice, or judge shall have jurisdiction to hear or consider any other action against the United States or its agents relating to any aspect of the detention, transfer, treatment, trial, or conditions of confinement of an alien detained by the United States who--
`(A) is currently in United States custody; and
`(B) has been determined by the United States to have been properly detained as an enemy combatant or is awaiting such determination.'.
(b) Effective Date- The amendments made by subsection (a) shall take effect on the date of the enactment of this Act, and shall apply to all cases, without exception, pending on or after the date of the enactment of this Act which relate to any aspect of the detention, transfer, treatment, trial, or conditions of detention of an alien detained by the United States since September 11, 2001.
In English: Any war crime committed by the Bush administration since 9/11 cannot be prosecuted."

i'm talking about the fact that people who aren't citizens, and don't pay taxes, don't have the same rights as those of us who do.
like it or not, the us government is a business, a poorly run one at that, but even giving away free product is a no-no.

(Oct 18 06, 14:19)i will agree with that 100%.
nicely said.
if anyone hear wants to talk about rights try getting arrested in mexico or north korea once. haha. you'll be lucky if you come out with all your appendages.
who was the kid who littered or something and they beat him with a stick on his back in public? made big news a few years ago. yeah... THAT'S your rights right there man.

where are they building a 700 mile fence? Stop re-framing the fucking argument.
Do you honestly think that Bush's power needs to be expanded? Seriously?

in a time of war w/'loose borders' and a multitude of non-citizen unknowns...... i have no prob w/post-poning or withholding habeas corpus to those who are not citizens.
again... is the U.S. at war? Is there a true hidden terrorist threat?...
... or is all scare tactics to expand like the imperialists we are? :)
- k0na_an0k0
you mean the wall that's been in place for years or the expansion that they are talking about adding to it?
the expansion being the part in the arizona desert where military training takes place and live bombs are tested. the place where immigrants were walking through and the testing would stop, training would stop and millions would be lost getting the people out of there.
that expansion?
i mean, if no wall was in place now why the hell would illegal immigrants have to tunnel underground?
comon. puh lease.

Do you agree with the Unitary Executive Theory?
I will check this thread again later tonite, I have to go now. Later.
- johndiggity0
do you really expect him to round up and try a significant proportion of the american people in the 2 1/3 years he has left in office?
it's like abortion: i'm a guy, i'll never have one, it doesn't apply to me, i'll defer to those it does, which in this case, is non-citizens, who do not have any rights protected under the us constitution as it is. so this is really a moot point.

kona- 2 points
1. law signed (abovetherementioned) doesn't apply only to illegal aliens, but to all aliens including documented perm residents which accounts for over 10 million people
2. a state of "emergency" = now aka never ending war on terror
- mrdobolina0
thing is he doesnt have to try anyone, john. he can lock them up forever, they have no rights to even ask why they have been locked up. That isnt america.
- johndiggity0
and they aren't americans.
- mrdobolina0
kona, stop reframing the argument. this has to do with terrorism, not the borders.
- mrdobolina0
do you know anyone that is working to become a citizen? they can just be "disappeared" and never heard from again.
really gotta go this time, seeya later.
- k0na_an0k0
Mohammed Atta was an alien legally.
although his visa had expired he was here for a time anyways as a legal alien.
so.....
i know what you mean though soler but i just don't see this as the government in the movie v for vendetta that scoops people off the street for jaywalking.
