So my girlfriend just told me about this whole virtual world that’s been going for eons now, but obviously I have never heard of it. She wants to run a story on it for her network, where she will create a virtual self and go in as a 3d reporter.
I guess I just want to know if anyone or there company owns property or is involved in it. If so is it any good or just an expensive gimmick. I mean companies supposedly trade and shiz on it. Just wanna know your views out there...

Its not what you think. She just wants to play World of Warcraft all the time and put it off as "reasearch."

It's a whole new world to explore without leaving your swivel chair.
God bless the great indoors.

i am involved with a company in the process of significant placement in there.
reuters just announced a partnership. american apparrel has a 'virtual store' in there. and alot more.
it might be a geeky thing, but there is alot of interest in it as of late, and we are not shy to jump on the band wagon.

I've just recently heard about it and like most things today, I don't approve of it...

dude second life is fucking crazy. My last company was doing research with them about how we could leverage that virtual world.
A lot of real world concepts work in their virtual world. Billboards, clothing stores, Real Estate, character skins, basicially people will buy things that make them stand out and be cool. Thing is, if you know how to design/create 3d stuff you can bring it in and sell it.
Think of a good business that would work and you can make some serious cash

"From this week, Second Life will take another step closer to reality, for wandering around this pixillated landscape, roughly the size of Amsterdam, is a virtual journalist.
That bastion of objective old world reporting, Reuters, has decided it needs to bring the business "news" from Second Life to the rest of us. Residents will also be able to keep up with news out here by visiting the Reuters building which the 155-year-old wire service has built within Second Life."
