rizzoli in soho used to have a bunch of stuff, but I don't think it's there anymore

rizzoli is gone.
there is printed matter in chelsea, zakka in soho, asahiya and kinokunia that carry japanese mags you can't find anywhere else.
zakka is easy to find. i can't remember what the cross st. is, but its like 3 blocks east of broadway on grand.

the bookstores in and next to moma are good. spoonbill and sugartown on bedford ave in williamsburg is good, only if you think you are hip enough to take it.

I've been in NYC for a year and haven't found a great place to buy design goodies. In San Francisco there are boutique design shops that often have design inspired gifts, an occasional art show, and tons of new books to browse. Where are they here?
I searched the filter and found this unhelpful thread. Help.
- I really want a great book selection. Awesome bookeneds and hoodies are secondary.monospaced

Didn't superfuture used to have a directory of sorts for NYC shops?
Or am I just imagining things

Thanks for the leads, duckseason. I personally need to hold and flip-through my books before buying them, and I want to find a great selection (usually newer books, some local treats) in one or two places. Thanks again.
- I'm the same way - unless someone recommends something, its such a toss up with buying design books.duckseason

INSIDE STANDARDS MANUAL, THE NYC BOOKSTORE DEDICATED TO ARCHIVING GRAPHIC DESIGN HISTORY
If you’re a fan of graphic design history, you might be familiar with Jesse Reed and Hamish Smyth. The duo are best known for reissuing the EPA and NASA’s graphics standard manuals from the 1970s and turning them into books for designers, history buffs, coffee-table book collectors, or anyone who appreciates a little bit of the era’s design aesthetics. Having mostly marketed and sold their books from the internet, Reed and Smyth opened a dedicated bookstore in Brooklyn this summer — and it acts almost as a mini museum of vintage industrial graphics design.

Nice 8 year bump :) Posting to my old self, who had just moved here: go to Kinokuniya you dunce, it's only 3 blocks from the office. They have all the good shit, plus gifts, and it's huge.
- why downvote a great book store resource in NYC?monospaced
