Windows tray icons

  I'm working on a desktop character for windows that can be launched via a tray icon.

  Does anyone have any experience in designing these as I'm unsure as to what restrictions there are / aren't?

  I'm working to 16x16px but would kind of like a transparent background as I know the tray colour changes with the selected theme etc.

  Any help greatly appreciated.
