Marketing your website

  Im working for a small company that has not only asked me to build there site, but want me to look into ways of marketing it. Does anyone have any experince with this? Do banners work? Purchasing email lists? I know its not the coolest thing to talk about, but Im not sure what to do? Anyone know of any good books or sites that deal with this?

  basically add your site to as many credible directories as you can (ODP, Yahoo, yell etc).

  Adwords/Overture are a good bet too...
