a client provides me with PDFs from a street fashion/ trend report subscription. but to be honest i find the forecasts to be pretty boring and obvious. i prefer to scan blogs to see whats fresh now and then do my own thing.
so i guess to reply to your question.. doesn't really affect what i do. trends will inspire some ideas but i don't really see them as something i *have to* deal with.

you will be able to edit genes like you edit music or use photoshop, then a 3d printer will spit out your genetically modified monstrosity and everyone and their mother would think they are a UX gene splicigner because they mastered a program and bought a cool set of filters for gene effects. the kerning of genes will be horrible. gene designers will be low balled by gene splicing freelancers from india.
- Then come the gene hackers (probably from South Korea or something) and one day you'll wake up with tiny hands.Wolfboy

a] The trending/prediction reports are usually way behind the curve and subject to being massaged by lobbying/PR parasites. 'Lies, damn lies and statistics' is doubly true for this.
b] Subscription to a few appropriate blogs will give you better and more relevant information and usually with the potential for dialogue too.
c] Fuck the reports, lead don't follow.

aren't designers pretty capable in predicting trends on their own? like everything in aesthetics is the same historical cycle that, well, everything else is ... pay attention to what is out of style and it'll be in vogue in a year or two.
