if i own a royalty free stock photo and use it in a print ad for a client, is that use of the photo then transferable to be used by the client in other ways, like having their web team reformat print ad for online use?
i know they could obviously just buy their own copy of the image, but if i already own a copy and include it as part of my billed service.. is the usage still limited to only work created in my studio?
does that make sense?

royalty-free means once you buy it, you can use it for whatever you want if I'm not mistaken. even future projexts unrelated to the original purchase.

aye, rights managed is the other way round isn't it?
never been too sure about the giving them the image for their own purposes thing, but surely if they need it to reformat the print ad its the same job, so you should be ok, no?

I think it all depends on what usage you've paid for...
I'd think about it longer but I'm busy stealing images from flickr...

thx for the replies..
yeah 100% royalty free/ no usage restrictions for the "owner".. but still not sure if that means i can let other designers use it, in the same way that a font is technically not transferable.
whatever.. its just dirt-ass cheap images from a Photodisc CD, which i know means its highly unlikely to ever get noticed. just was interested to know if anyone had a yes or no answer.
