it IS a great camera, ive been using it on a 2 month project. but, i would personally get a 5D.

the 5D files are very comparable, I was renting a 1D for most shoots and now shoot mostly with the 5D. Also the 5D has a new shutter design which is much more robust, the 1D shutter apparently has issues after a few thousand uses.

Superb camera but too pricey.
I'm waiting for the 1D with the DIGIC III sensor...my 20D needs to retire.

Sorry I thought you meant the 1Ds MKII. The 1DN is a nice sports and wildlife camera...AF is spot on and you can't go wrong with 8.5FPS.

i would use a 5d but i need the speed in low light settings so ive been recommended to get a 1d

use the 5d, been using for a year now and no camera file that I compared it too looks as good, unless of course you spend Big bucks and move to MF backs.
Awesome in low light, much better than 20d. If exposed properly and processed right, RAW files don't get too noisy even at at 500 ISO.
I think this is the BEST camera out right now in it's price range.
What do you need the 1d for?...sports, etc? That seems to be the only place it outshines the 5d (also that is in a pro body, where the 5d is much lighter and not as weather sealed.)
good luck with your choice.
