Hey gang so my company has just received our first Government grant of about £4000 to rebuild our site. It's to promote ethical and sustainable living in a fun fresh way.. Sadly when we launched in Jan we were totally limited by funds ie) what we had to put in ourselves so we got this site built on what we had
www.thisisnotmy.co.ukHowever now we have cash to rebuild it I really want the design to be fuckin tip top. I designed the first one but i am self taught, so don't profess to be that good. Just wondering if any of you could have quick look and maybe throw out ideas you might have for the direction for the look and feel of the new site. The big thing here is we want to keep it completely separate from other green / hippy sites out there as that is not at all what we are about. Any feedback muchos appreciated. This is a site set up to try and help the planet so its for a damn good cause! Thanks guys have a rocking day!

Sorry the link to the site is
- kelpie0
new logo, tighter structure, less heavy elements, more contrast between areas of content and a whole lot more Giraffe
:)
- kidswift-0
Cheers Kelpi, sorry should of said colour structure has changed to black / white with a red / orange and yellow sun with giraffes and other elements in front of it...
What do you mean by the less heavy elements though bro? More white space?
- kelpie0
for me, I don't like the contrst between all the white space aand the thick lines in the nav etc. I'm a long term hat0r of thick lines though, maybe that's irrational.

I hear you loud and clear. Just looking at the site now makes me cringe...

(Oct 10 06, 01:36)dude, from what I've heard the planet's pretty screwed up already and judging by what kids are like these days it'll be more fucked up in 50 year's time. Earth's beyond saving, let's go find a new planet to fuck over.
- Nairn0
what the fuck?
how the fuck could you justify getting £4k from the gov't for a frigging homebrew news site/blog content aggregator?
that fucking pisses me off - I'm sure they could throw money at another ostensibly climate-aimed project that 's actually achieveing results.
i hope you put that sodding money to bloody good use.
*fume.
- Nairn0
*grumble.
Use the money for content - not for jazzing your site up / buying a Vespa.
- kidswift-0
Ha don't stress Nairn its not all going on the site. Some of its going on lapdancing and coke... oh and on added content and ares we wern't able to add on the current site. Plus an online community thing.... but if you keep whining i might just spend it all on vespa's, charlie and overpriced t-shirts from overinflated desingers....
- Nairn0
I'm not whining - I'm angry that you're not paying for this yourself / seeking private funding.
I don't see why the gov't (we/I) should pay for ideas that can't pay for themselves.
Unless, of course, you have to pay it back, in which case I'll happily retract.
'put your money where your mouth is'

Why would you be angry a company set up to try and help people to save the planet, is getting a 4grand funding? Especially when all three of us have paid for every other aspect of it... that we are all in overdraft and have loans that we are unsure how quite we are going to pay back becaues we have sunk it all into advertising and promotion of a company we believe in. I would hardly say we are in this as a get rich quick scheme.
Why the fuck shouldn't we get money from the government to be doing something they should be doing themselves...
Ontop of this the government designates money for funding for companies set up to help the environment. To qualify (which is not easy by the way) you then have to appropirate how these funds are going to be invested and how you will quantify results of it.
I would could see you might have point if we werer opening a burger shop, strip club or putting in a bid to harvest tobacco but thats not the case.
If you still have a problem with it you should put your words down on paper and do something about it instead of telling me.. talk to your MP or something. Good luck.

as much as i hate people "timelining" other people, im going to tell someone to do this for the first time ....
TIMELINE!
I remember when you first posted this site up here mate, a lot of people gave feedback on how you could improve it.
im not saying that in a nasty way, its just cos im too busy to give decent feedback but im sure that i already did when you originally posted this site asking for feedback.
good luck
- paraselene0
oooh it's like that time i was gonna squat!
- kidswift-0
Yeah i remember. But as it happend I didn't actually get anything of much substance from that though. Hence 10mtsh later as its now about to go under knife I thought I might put it out there again...
so far the response is pretty much the same execept Kelpi;s imput. I don't really see why peeps would bother to post with negative views unless its constructive. I do appreciate your only saying this as your busy though..
- kelpie0
I'm only helping you cos I worked on a G8 thing and I still feel dirty and whorish for doing so, sorry mate...
- Nairn0
In that case, maybe you should spend it on designers, because I can't (for the life of me) see what it is you offer that could justify a gov't grant.
I do get the purpose of gov't grants (my wee brother got one [smaller than yours] to set up his business), if it looks like they might actually offer something / pay itself off / offer a social service of value.
I apologise for immediately assuming that you'd not put in any money yourself (thoughtless and ignorant of me), nonetheless, I can't see ANY advertising on there, or any attempt at marketing integration, no commercial tie-ins or sponsorship - nothing. How is your business model standing up?
Frankly, if you've had it setup like that for the 10 months you have done without any significant business or site development, still with basic errors (huge compresssed images?), I'd question whether you're capable of doing this right.
If you'd like me to drive the point home, I'll happily contact your MP and ask him to justify the expenditure.
'Sorry' for being such a cock - I just wonder how flippant you are IRL.
- 23kon0
i'd go with what nairn says and get yourself a designer.
the site looks pretty much template driven. so a designer would only have to knock out a few design templates to get you on track.
then do the build yourself.
if you DO get somefeedback on here then note it down and pass it onto the designer you get to tackle this.
why not offer out the design job on here? someone might have the time and wont say not to some dosh.
