LES BLANK: Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe (1980)
A short documentary film directed by Les Blank depicting director Werner Herzog living up to a promise that he would eat his shoe if Errol Morris ever completed the film Gates of Heaven - a film about pet cemeteries. Deciding to make a moment of it on stage was done in an attempt to honour his word and encourage others to follow in the footsteps of his friend.
When you get past the drawn out beginning and the (real) shoe-eating, Herzog's passionate talk on filmmaking and life is actually inspiring.Herzog ist das Mann. (less)

it's great. i heard on a Dutch tv show (i think it was Zomergasten, perhaps bolus can back me up?) in which was told about the incident of the little man catching fire and him jumping into the field of cactusses naked to make up for it.. love this man!
